Semi-Truck Accident 101: What Every Passenger Car Driver Should Understand

Four Things To Remember If You Are Hurt In A Retail Store

by Kenneth Graham

There are many ways to get hurt in a retail store that are not your fault. A floor can be slippery, and it induces you to slip and fall. Another example is inventory in the store that was not secured properly and falls on you. If you have been hurt in a store for no other reason that you entered the store to shop, there are a few things you need to remember in this situation.

Do not tell witnesses that everything is okay

Even If you are not in any pain from your fall or other accident, you may still have issues a few days later. Many injuries do not become apparent right away. This is especially true with injuries to the neck and back. If you tell people, including the store manager, that you are all right, it will make compensation for your injury difficult.

Make sure there is a report filled out

Usually this will be done by the store manager or at least by an assistant manager. This paper will serve as documentation for the event and will be sent to their insurance company. Make sure you read this report, so you know that it is accurate. You will also need a copy for your records as well.

See a doctor as soon as possible

Ideally, you should see a doctor shortly after the accident, but this is not always possible. If you are in any pain, you should go to an urgent care center or a walk-in emergency room. If you're not in any pain, you still still see a doctor, at least by the next day, to make sure you are all right. If a few days later, you start to feel pain, you can always go back to see a doctor. This is important because it shows that you were concerned enough to see a doctor shortly after the accident. Just because a doctor did not find anything wrong with you the first time, doesn't mean you weren't hurt.

Contact a personal injury law firm

If you have been hurt, after seeing a doctor, your first call should be to a personal injury attorney. Do not bother filing a claim on your own with the insurance company, nor should you accept any offers of compensation without speaking to an attorney. Personal injury attorneys exist because insurance companies are never working in your interest.

You don't need to be concerned about cost when hiring an attorney because attorneys who practice in this area of law routinely work on a contingency basis. Their payment will come from the settlement. Initial consultations are free, but remember to bring your copy of the accident report, and any information provided by the doctor.

I've done years of research into the auto accident laws as they pertain to semi-trucks and the companies that own them. This site is a compilation of everything I've learned. I hope that it helps you if you've been affected by the carelessness or mistakes of a semi-truck driver, and encourages you to contact an attorney to protect your rights today.
